Wild Goose Chase – Review

August 18, 2008

So, I had the privilege again to review another new book that is being released.  I had a little bit of a time crunch on this one to get it read/reviewed on time because it comes out tomorrow!

Anyways, the book I read is Mark Batterson’s new book called Wild Goose Chase.  This is a great book.  I read it in about four to five sittings.  It’s an easy read, but has a lot of depth to go back to and dig and find.

Without giving to much away, Batterson discusses the idea of the Holy Spirit being like a Wild Goose.  He sets this up in the first chapter.  The following chapters are different “spiritual cages” we get trapped in while we are/should be chasing after the Wild Goose.

These different hold ups he writes about share a lot of insight into the very things we struggle with.  For example, the idea of being held back on our chase because of assumptions.  When we start assuming what God can and cannot do, we are going to get stuck. This is a very shallow view of what he says about assumptions, but he really unpacks how it effects us and our view of God and the Holy Spirit.

Overall the book is very encouraging and inspiring, and at the same time has some very practical questions at the end of each section to help you unpack how the issue may be effecting you in your life.  The book would be great for a group study or even for someone who is looking to for ways to help spiritual growth areas in their life.  To find more resources and info about the book, you can visit the book site here.

You can find the book at amazon.com tomorrow when it is released.

I really recommend you checking this book out, I feel like it is a good catalyst for bringing back the adventure of following God.  And if you want someone to discuss it with, feel free to send me a message!

the Sacred Echo – review

July 24, 2008

the Sacred Echo

So a few months ago Maragaret Feinberg posted on her blog about her new book coming out next month, “the Sacred Echo”.  She had said anyone wanting to get an ARC copy to email her and then they could read and review the book on their blog.

Well, I emailed Margaret and got the book, then it took me to many months to start it!  I’m not sure what I do that.  Anyways, I did start it and finish it.  It’s a great book!

I would say the short of it is how we communicate with God and how He communicates to us.  The thing is, it really shakes around misconceptions we have about prayer.  Margaret does a great job at communicating the echo’s of truth that has been communicated to her through story and life experiences.  It is a breath of fresh air, and in some ways very freeing.

Personally, the book came at a great time in my life while I’m wondering about and questioning prayer, how it works, why, etc.  I feel encouraged by Margaret’s simple way of handling prayer (her prayer list), but I don’t want to say to much, because you should read the book!

This is a great book and highly recommend it! It is being released in August of 2008.  Be expecting to see it pop up more as more people get their hands on it!  Check it out.

(I think this may be my first “book review” on this blog, a new milestone!)
