the Sacred Echo – review

July 24, 2008

the Sacred Echo

So a few months ago Maragaret Feinberg posted on her blog about her new book coming out next month, “the Sacred Echo”.  She had said anyone wanting to get an ARC copy to email her and then they could read and review the book on their blog.

Well, I emailed Margaret and got the book, then it took me to many months to start it!  I’m not sure what I do that.  Anyways, I did start it and finish it.  It’s a great book!

I would say the short of it is how we communicate with God and how He communicates to us.  The thing is, it really shakes around misconceptions we have about prayer.  Margaret does a great job at communicating the echo’s of truth that has been communicated to her through story and life experiences.  It is a breath of fresh air, and in some ways very freeing.

Personally, the book came at a great time in my life while I’m wondering about and questioning prayer, how it works, why, etc.  I feel encouraged by Margaret’s simple way of handling prayer (her prayer list), but I don’t want to say to much, because you should read the book!

This is a great book and highly recommend it! It is being released in August of 2008.  Be expecting to see it pop up more as more people get their hands on it!  Check it out.

peace,

(I think this may be my first “book review” on this blog, a new milestone!)

Church, beer, cigars…

July 20, 2008

Tonight I had one of the most spiritual/holy moments in the longest time, while eating a nice steak dinner, having a drink, and sharing some cigars.

Tonight I got to celebrate a friends birthday, and in return he celebrated us.  After we had dinner we moved outside to the porch and just relaxed.  We got to watch a big storm roll in from the distance.  We sat there and talked about life, and God.

Imagine a span of 25 to 65 years old, 6 guys, around a table.  We just sat there and discussed God’s grace.  The role it plays in our lives, and how humbled we are by it.  It was encouraging to hear some more “well-aged” men saying, there is so little they understand.

It truly was a holy moment, that I could have sat there for a long time, because God was there with us, relaxing with us.

I am humbled to be a part of that group tonight, filled with emotion and excitement of what’s to come.

Most of all, I’m extremely impressed with my friend.  Tonight was a testament to his life and how God is using him.  Thanks, and happy birthday.

Hello blog world…

July 15, 2008

Dear Blog World,

I miss you, but I will be having a crazy week.  So I’m sorry I won’t be able to share my fun thoughts, ponderings, or any other events that I’ve been wanting to share.

I promise good content to come.  Yes, and I also know that the one year anniversery of this blog is very close, if not past.  It should be celebrated.

If you want to know what I’m doing, I’ll keep you posted on Twitter.

With/For

July 8, 2008

“…God doesn’t want me to work for him out of a sense of obligation, but out of a sense of gratitude”.  -Margaret Feinberg

“When we work with God instead of for God, our sweat creates an intimacy.  In fact, it becomes an act of adoration and worship”.

Wow, am I working for or with God?  Seems to have a huge implication.

Wet

July 7, 2008

Tonight I ran with Amanda in the rain.

Here’s why that is significant:

1) I’m not good at running

2) Amanda is

3) I’m not a big fan of getting wet.

So, if I ran in the rain, with my wife, that has to count for something right? At least losing a few pounds! Just out of effort!?!? Right?

Someone back me up….

40 million less…

July 6, 2008

Me @ the beach

Well, the time has come and I have to blog about my vacation.  I was kind of avoiding this because it means that vacation is over, but it’s time to face the facts.

Overall, my vacation went really well.  Amanda and I had a good time with her family.  They are always fun to hang out with.  We ate some good food all week long, meaning, I ate enough food to last me to next week.  Seriously, I think I binge ate junk food while sitting on the beach, it was gross.  People were probably looking at me thinking I’m deprived or something.

yummy!

yummy!

Speaking of food, I ate a muscle while I was there.  A steamed muscle.  One night we were watching Dirty Jobs on TV and they went to a Muscle Farm, it was pretty gross.  The next night we went to this seafood place, and sure enough, they had steamed muscles.  So I ate one, just to see what it was like.  I decided it was like nothing.  Really, it tastes like nothing.

As far as my goals go, I did most of them.  I didn’t get to finish any books, though I did read a good bit.  I didn’t get sunburn, but that is because I was putting on 80spf and staying under the umbrella the whole time.  I do feel rested.  Now I have to get back on routine though.

They funniest part of the week was a little news fact I brought with me.  Before we left for the week I was watching the news and they said there would be 40 Million less travelers this holiday season.  I thought that was pretty significant.  Well, we noticed it!  Typically the beach we go to is packed, along with the boardwalk and roads.  We got around with no problem.  We got into restaurants quickly, and had all kinds of space on the beach.  Every time we noticed a lack of people we kept saying 40 million less!

All in all, it was a good time.  I’m glad we got to go, though, now I think Amanda has had to much of me for to many days in a row.

In other news, I have some big changes coming up here soon.  My blog may be finding a new home with some new initiatives!  So, my blogging may be lacking over the new few weeks because of some busy stuff coming up.  I’ll keep you posted!

peace,

Goals for the week

June 27, 2008

So here are my goals while at the beach:

1) Relax (obviously)

2) Read

- My ARC copy of Margaret Feinberg’s new book The Sacred Echo and write a review

- Finish reading Jesus For President

3) Not get burnt

4) Maybe do some Photoshop tutorials,

5) Come back refreshed!

You guys can keep me accountable for how I do.  I might not blog while I’m there, but I’ll probably be using Twitter.  You can check out my twitter status on the side over there or follow me here.

See you on the flip side!

peace,

-A
