“No-Blog Blues”

March 28, 2008

Sorry guys,

I haven’t been blogging, why?  I’m not sure.  I also just realized that I have been ignoring some artistic expressions of my feelings too for the past few years.   Maybe I should stop that.

I did get tagged by Rachelle, so I need to respond to that, that should be coming soon.   If you are around Lancaster, PA tonight, come to Chillin’ Grounds.  There will be some great music, and I’ll be there!

peace,

The Pursuit of Tone…

March 5, 2008

So I think I’m going to start posting a little on some of the gear I use for my guitar stuff. I’ve been asked some questions on what I use and I’m always interested in finding out what others use too. So I’m going to try to create some community here for the musicians that want to trade tips. So I thought I would start out with discussing the pedal board.

Wow, three out of the four last sentences I started with “So I”.

Anyways, so above is a picture of my current pedal board setup. Here’s the signal flow. I run right into my Ernie Ball VPJR, then it splits the signal going into my tuner and into the Boss Compressor/Sustainer (CS-1 I think?).  From the compressor I run into the Ibanez Tubescreamer, then into the Radial Tonebone.  These two pedals I use as my overdrive and distortion.  The tubescreamer is great with tube amps, and the Tonebone is a very versatile distortion pedal that uses a 12AX7 tube in it.  After the Tonebone it goes into the Boss Digital Delay (DD-5) then out of that stereo into the Line 6 Modulation Modeler.  Then depending when and where I’m playing I run that stereo into two different amps.

Right not I power everything with a Visual Sound 1Spot, that is other than the Tonebone in which I have to get another adapter for the 1Spot that will fit the Tonebone.

Of course, I am always looking for was to improve my tone and also try to figure out how to keep my playing simple and not have to depend on pedals.  This is hard though!  I have a ways to improve to get to that point.

So what do you use?  I’d love for some other guitarists to discuss the tone they get and how.  Also, feel free to answer any questions.  Next time I write about gear I’ll probably discuss amps.

peace,
